Free Advice from our Guests
Time and time again, grateful visitors at Cherry Ridge Retreat tell us about
experiences at other lodges in the Hocking Hills area. Here are some of the
problems they’ve reported:
- Websites show photographs that don’t
accurately depict the lodgings
- Hot tubs are too small
- Lodgings that say they provide “privacy”
are situated alongside public roads
- Cabins are packed like sardines on small
properties
Before you consider booking accommodations in
the Hocking Hills area be sure you have the answers to these questions:
Privacy:
Is my cabin secluded? How close is the
next cabin? How far is my cabin from the road? What are the views like from
my cabin?
At Cherry Ridge Retreat, our cabins are situated nearly a mile from the road
amidst 140 acres of private forested land. We focus on quality, not
quantity: each cabin is situated on its own private site and each site is
unique. As you sit on your porch or gaze from the great room picture
windows, all you’ll see is nature: trees, water features, birds, and deer.
Isn’t this why you wanted to go to Hocking Hills in the first place?
Hiking:
Are there hiking trails on the property?
Whereas most rentals in Hocking hills are located on very small pieces of
property, Cherry Ridge Retreat is situated on 140 private acres. We have
miles of trails that wander through wooded ridges and Ravine's. You’ll find a
wide variety of flora and fauna, as well as several serene picnic sites
where you can enjoy a private meal in the midst of the forest.
Hot Tub:
How large is the hot tub? How secluded is
it?
At Cherry Ridge Retreat, our hot tubs accommodate four to six people and
each is housed in a private gazebo to create a spa-like setting that
includes dramatic views of the natural surroundings, a sophisticated stereo
system with over 100 music options, plus a built in outdoor bar. You won’t
find these deluxe features anywhere else in Hocking Hills.
Kitchen:
What is the kitchen like? Is it a real kitchen, or is it a “kitchenette”?
Whereas most Hocking Hills accommodations have small kitchens or
kitchenettes, our cabins have complete kitchens suitable for preparing a
gourmet meal. Our spacious open plan kitchens include food processors,
coffee grinders, new Calphalon cookware, and a bar that overlooks the great
room. We also provide new stainless steel barbeque grills. We supply the
gas—no need to hassle with bringing your own charcoal.
Cabin Interior:
How is my cabin furnished?
Many cabins in Hocking Hills use “rustic” as
a buzzword. Although pictures on the internet often depict homey-looking
rooms and cozy patio furniture, guests at Cherry Ridge Retreat have reported
their disappointment in the quality (or lack thereof) in the cabins they’ve
visited. At Cherry Ridge, guests find artist-designed furniture, stylish yet
comfortable sofas and chairs, wide-plank wood floors, boulder fireplaces in
the great room and master bedroom, tiled kitchens with top-of-the-line
fixtures, fluffy towels and cloudlike bedding on pillow top mattresses, as
well as Aveda bath products.
Cabin Choices:
How do I know which cabin to choose?
Have you ever booked a vacation and felt like you were taking a big leap of
faith? At Cherry Ridge Retreat, the good news is: all the cabins are
wonderful. If you loved the first cabin you visited, you’re welcome to come
back to that one year after year. Or return and stay at a new cabin with
every visit. Over time you’ll discover the varied views and charms of Cherry
Ridge Retreat. Visit five times and your sixth stay is free.
TV/DVD/CD
Are TVs provided?
While many Hocking Hills cabins feature TVs, few can boast the deluxe array
of entertainment options that we provide at Cherry Ridge Retreat. Each cabin
includes a 28” TV with over 120 satellite channels plus a DVD/CD player. We
have a lending library of DVDs and CDs for our guests.
Additionally, the cabins are outfitted with indoor and outdoor stereo
systems equipped with Sirius satellite radio. You can choose from over 100
music channels or play your favorite CD.
Community Spaces:
Is there a pleasant community space where guests can congregate?
Although Cherry Ridge Retreat is designed to maximize privacy, we do offer
several unique places where guests can come together and enjoy each others’
company in a relaxed, beautiful setting. Our pond side gazebo includes a
25-foot long two tier bar, ceiling fans, and seating to accommodate couples,
intimate groups or larger parties. There is an adjoining deck overlooking
the water.
Just steps away, guests can enjoy a large community fire pit (with wood
stocked nearby) and an oversize stone grill. The fire pit and grill are
situated on a grassy area alongside the pond and are the perfect place to
relax and watch the stars.
Fire Pit:
Is there a fire ring? Is it private? Is wood provided?
Although some Hocking Hills cabins include fire pits, very few include wood.
At Cherry Ridge Retreat, some of our cabins have private fire pits with
nearby wood stations. Additionally, there is a large community fire pit at
the pond side gazebo. Again, wood is provided.
Telephones:
Do the cabins have phones? Do they require a calling card?
Most rentals don’t have phones and the few that do will recommend that you
bring a pre-paid calling card. At Cherry Ridge Retreat, all of our cabins
have phones and include free long distance. Go ahead and check in on your
mother in Florida… your call is on us.
Fishing:
Are there water features on the property? Do you allow fishing or
swimming?
Rarely do you find private ponds in Hocking Hills. Cherry Ridge Retreat
boasts a beautiful pond which can be accessed by a number of wooded trails.
The pond is stocked with bass, hybrid blue gills, and sunfish. We permit
catch and release fishing, but ask that guests use barb less hooks. Live
bait may not be used. For the safety of our guests, swimming is not
permitted.
