Top Summer Events in Hocking Hills

By May 31, 2019 No Comments

Hocking Hills is home to some of Ohio’s best summer events, from music to art to adventure, there’s a little something for everyone.  Here are some of the top events to take in as you plan your stay at Cherry Ridge Retreat of Hocking Hills!

Washboard Music Festival – Logan

Father’s Day weekend provides one of the most unique festivals in Ohio, including fun for kids of all ages!  It began with creating music with a washboard, a stick and string attached to an upside down metal wash tub, and an empty jug back in the mid-1800s, grew in popularity with Dixieland and Cajun music, and now is celebrated in the streets of downtown Logan, where the Columbus Washboard Company still exists as the lone remaining washboard manufacturer in the United States (and gives free tours during the festival!) Come for the music, stay for the food, tractor show and parade, and arts and crafts as Logan showcases the best time of the summer!

Lancaster Festival

Celebrating its 35th season in 2019, the heart of downtown Lancaster will be hopping for 10 days in July, from the 17th to the 27th, with rock and roll legends Kansas headlining the final night of the festival!  They are also auctioning off a Kia Soul as part of the festivities, as this celebration of music and arts has committed to fostering the artistic growth of the Lancaster Festival Orchestra and supporting other community artists. Don’t you cry no more and get your tickets!

Parade of the Hills – Nelsonville

Head to the historic Public Square in Nelsonville from August 14-17 for parades, a 5k run, carnival, and the Ohio State Fiddling Contest!  Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday feature parades starting at 6pm, followed by free entertainment each night. Plan a midweek stay with Cherry Ridge and go check out the festivities!

Flaming Torchlight Canoe Trips

Looking for something a little more low-key and romantic during your stay? Hocking Hills Adventures offers a great option – canoeing under the full moon on the Hocking River.  Trips start at Crocketts Run and last for about 2 hours on the water, and then back at the landing stay for wine, s’mores, and live music!  Dates include June 22, July 6, August 10, and September 1.

After all the fun, be sure to relax with a massage and take in the scenery on our 140 acres in the heart of Hocking Hills. Book your stay now!
