It’s nearly time for the annual Hocking County Fair , and the schedule this year is jam-packed with events, competitions, and delicious foods. We’ve outlined our top picks below  so you can plan out your day at the fair and enjoy all the local agriculture and art that Hocking has to offer.

For the Animal-Lover

If you are a lover of all things fuzzy and furry, you can view the hard work of local 4-H students and farmers at the animal shows. Horses, rabbits, and sheep will be on display Monday, September 9th, while your other four-legged friends, like poultry, cattle, and goats, can be seen Tuesday. And, if you are lucky, you can even pet a few of the barnyard critters and learn about the art of husbandry.

For the Classic Fair-Goer

For the ride-lovers and devoted foodies, the fair boasts all the classic rides and snacks of your childhood memories. Catch a stunning view of the fairgrounds from the Ferris wheel, saddle up for a leisurely ride on the merry-go-round with your kids, or giggle your way through a funhouse  for an afternoon filled with adrenaline-pumping activities. And, when hunger strikes, you can eat your way through all the delicacies that this multi-day local celebration has to offer. There’s even a children’s cake decorating contest on Friday, September 13th, at 12:00 p.m. for those baking show addicts.

For the Thrill-Seekers

If you are looking to get down and dirty, you will want to check out the Mud Bog, which begins on Thursday, September 12th at 7 p.m. Watch in awe as local daredevils navigate their vehicles through the sticky, stinky mud pit at the Moose Family Fun Center Grandstand. You can also catch motocross on Wednesday, September 11th at 8 p.m. or enjoy a nostalgic tractor pull on Monday or Saturday.

For the Perfect Ending to the Night

When your belly is full and all the games have been won, grab a lemonade and head to the Eagle Shelter house at 8 p.m. to enjoy live music each night while the sun sets over the fair.  There’s nothing quite like soaking up the local culture as the last few days of summer heat break into the first cool evenings of fall, so grab your tickets and meet us there at the Hocking County Fair – September 9th-14th.
