These ponds offer peaceful spots for relaxation, photography, wildlife observation, and catch-and-release fishing. Surrounded by trees and natural scenery, the ponds contribute to the secluded atmosphere that has made Cherry Ridge Retreat a popular destination for couples and travelers looking for privacy and tranquility.
Guests who have booked the Whispering Pines cabin can enjoy the serene environment surrounded by private acreage and tucked away near a private pond. This pond isn’t stocked with fish, but those interested in catch-and-release fishing can visit any of the other four stocked ponds located throughout the property via hiking paths or peaceful woodland trails.
The Still Waters cabin and Water’s Edge cabin sit along the border of a lily pad-strewn central pond, giving guests easy access to picturesque, fully stocked water features close by.
Cabins With Private Lake Access
The Lake House cabin, considered to be Cherry Ridge Retreat’s Premier accommodation, sits beside a private lake and features outdoor amenities to help guests make the most of the picturesque views.

Catch-and-Release Fishing Opportunities
For many visitors, fishing at Cherry Ridge Retreat offers a relaxing way to slow down, unplug, and enjoy the quiet beauty of the Hocking Hills landscape.
The private ponds—available to all guests on the property—are stocked with largemouth bass, hybrid blue gills, and sunfish, and the lake is fully stocked with striped and largemouth bass, hybrid blue gills, perch, and sauger, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy casual fishing during their stay.
To help preserve the health of the fish population and maintain the natural ecosystem on the property, Cherry Ridge Retreat permits catch-and-release fishing only. Guests are asked to use barbless hooks whenever fishing in the lake or ponds.
Fishing gear is not provided, so guests planning to fish during their stay should bring their own equipment.
Is Swimming Allowed in the Ponds or Lake?
For the safety of guests, swimming is not permitted in the lake or ponds located throughout the property. While the natural water features add scenic beauty for hiking and recreational fishing opportunities, they are not designed or maintained for swimming.
However, guests who are interested in swimming or water-based relaxation still have excellent options available through two of Cherry Ridge Retreat’s luxury cabins.
Cabins with Private Pools
The Observatory cabin features a seasonal private swimming pool along with a cold plunge and hot tub, creating a relaxing outdoor retreat surrounded by nature.
The Observatory Pool is heated from Memorial Day through Labor Day and available for use from May first through October fifteenth. Guests interested in heating the pool before Memorial Day weekend or after Labor Day weekend may request heating at their own expense. Pool heating costs are based on metered gas usage.

The Lake House cabin features a heated plunge pool that is available year-round, allowing guests to enjoy outdoor relaxation during every season.
